In the retail technology sector, we’re big fans of an initialism: VPN, WMS, AR, VR, CX… and that’s just off the top of our heads! However, there’s a new IT buzzword that you might have heard of: PXM. So, what is it, how does it differ to PIM and how does PXM help retailers?
What’s the difference between PIM and PXM?
PXM stands for product experience management. The main difference is that whilst PIM is a system that is internally facing, PXM is focused on the customer. It’s all about creating an emotional response which positively influences the buying decision of the customer; both systems collate information to then push to the marketplace, but PXM is all about looking at what makes a retailer’s products popular with a customer, with optimum levels of product data, photos, videos and SEO-friendly content. It helps to get the product found in the first place, encapsulates the experience that the consumer has if they obtain that product and essentially looks to provide all answers that a consumer may have in their purchasing decision. This is especially crucial when research shows that 76% of global consumers expect companies to understand their needs and expectations (Salesforce 2018).
Essentially, PXM is the evolution of a PIM solution but not all PIMs have PXM… confused? Don’t be. We’re proud of OMIO’s PXM approach and have put together our quick guide to PXM.
